Sweet pongal is a delicious South Indian dish made with rice, moong lentils, ghee, jaggery or sugar, cardamoms and nuts. Sweet pongal is known as chakkara pongali in telugu & sakkarai pongal in tamil.

  1. Prepare 1 cup of rice.
  2. You need 1 cup of yellow lentils (moong daal).
  3. Prepare 1.5 cup of jaggery.
  4. Make ready 1 cup of grated coconut.
  5. Make ready 1 cup of milk.
  6. It’s 3 of cardamom.
  7. Prepare 10 of cashews.
  8. Prepare 20 of raisins.
  9. It’s 4 tablespoon of ghee.

Sweet pongal (sweet khichdi of South India) step by step

  1. Dry roast the lentil till golden colour. Wash rice and lentils. And pressure cook with 5 cups of water for 2 whistle..
  2. In a pan melt jaggery with little water. And strain it to an another thick bottomed wok. This is to get rid of any impurities present in jaggery..
  3. Add cooked rice mix well. Grind coconut and add it..
  4. Add milk. Add cardamom powder mix well. Cook for few minutes. Add more milk or water if required..
  5. In a small pan heat ghee add cashew fry till it turns golden colour. Add raisins fry till resins swell. Immediately add it to pongal..
  6. Mix well and serve hot with some more ghee on topped..
