Ingredients of Cottage Pie

  1. It’s of meat mixture.
  2. Prepare 1 tbsp of butter.
  3. It’s 1 tbsp of olive oil, extra virgin.
  4. Take 1 lb of ground beef.
  5. You need 1 cup of onion, chopped.
  6. Make ready 2 tbsp of garlic, minced.
  7. It’s 1 1/2 tbsp of dry rosemary.
  8. It’s of salt.
  9. Take 1 tbsp of ground cumin.
  10. It’s 4 tsp of worcestershire sauce.
  11. Take 1 tbsp of ketchup.
  12. You need 1 tsp of cayenne pepper.
  13. You need 1/3 cup of all-purpose flour.
  14. It’s 1 1/2 cup of beef broth.
  15. It’s 1 cup of frozen peas.
  16. Make ready 1 cup of frozen carrots.
  17. You need of potato topping.
  18. You need 6 of medium purple potatoes.
  19. You need 1 tbsp of butter.
  20. Take 1/3 cup of heavy cream.
  21. It’s 1/2 cup of pepper jack cheese.
  22. Take 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese.
  23. Make ready 1 of egg, beaten.
  24. It’s of salt.

Cottage Pie step by step

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F..
  2. In a deep sauce pan add in butter and oil on medium heat..
  3. Add in the onions, garlic, and beef, and saute for 10 minutes until beef is cooked through..
  4. Add in flour and mix; the flour will absorb the extra moisture to create a gravy later..
  5. Cook for another 3-4 minutes to cook off the flours raw edge and add in the below seasoning ingredients..
  6. Add in broth, cook and stir until sauce has thicken (about 5 minutes)..
  7. Stir in frozen veggies, and remove from heat..
  8. Add meat and veggie filling into a baking dish… Be sure to flatten your meat mixture in the dish..
  9. Meanwhile boil your potatoes until fork tender..
  10. Then add in butter, heavy cream, cheese, seasoning, & egg yoke. Mash and mix well..
  11. Using a large spoon, place dollops of potatoes over your meat filling, then using a fork, gently spread potatoes evenly across the meat filling. Doing it this way will help from pulling the meat up & mixing it into the potato crust..
  12. Bake in oven for 30 minutes until the sides have brown..
  13. Remove baking dish from oven and let cool for 10-15 minutes before serving..
