Ingredients of Namak Pare

  1. You need 2 Cups of Atta/ Whole Wheat Flour.
  2. Prepare 1/2 Teaspoon of ajwain/ Carom seeds.
  3. Prepare 1 teaspoon of Salt.
  4. Make ready as needed of Oil.
  5. Prepare 1 Cup of Water.

I made this snack for Diwali but didn't get the Namak pare as it is called in Hindi is lightly seasoned with spices like ajwain [carom seeds] and.Namak para (or namakpare), also nimki or nimkin (or namkin) is a crunchy savoury snack eaten in the Indian Subcontinent.It is also referred as Mathri sometimes in some parts of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.Namak para is ribbon-like strips of pastry (made up of refined flour, oil and water).

Namak Pare instructions

  1. Take a Bowl, add 2 Cups Atta in it with 1/2 Teaspoon Ajwain, 1 Teaspoon Salt, 4-5 Table Spoon Oil in it & mix them properly till Atta starts changing colour & it's texture..
  2. Then slowly-slowly start adding water in it so that no lumps are formed in the dough..
  3. Keep rubbing it for 2-3 minutes & in the end you will get a hard dough..
  4. Now cover the dough with a damp cloth & let it rest for 30 minutes..
  5. After 30 minutes, cut the dough in 3 equal parts..
  6. Now take 1 part, make it it in a medium-thick sheet with the help of rolling pin/ belan..
  7. Now cut the sheet into medium size strips & do the same process with the remaining parts of dough..
  8. Then take a kadhai, add oil in it & keep the gas on medium flame..
  9. When oil gets heated up, add Atta strips in it & fry them till they are golden brown in colour..
  10. Remember while frying, Atta will release many bubbles in oil but after 7-8 bubbles will disappear..
  11. After 7-8 minutes, when they turn into golden brown in colour, turn off the gas & take them out in a plate..
  12. Let them cool down, Your Namak Paare is ready to be served..
